January 27, 2008

Howdy all. I haven’t been bloggin for a spell so I better get back at it. What is new in Cooks Creek? Well, this ol boy has a sore back. It has been botherin me for a couple of weeks now. The worst part isn’t the sore back but not bein able to sleep. There was about a week I don’t think I slept more than a couple of hours a night. Man, that sure turns your life upside down. I am on the mend now and actually spent the better part of today moving snow. Oh you’re getting lots of snow in Cooks Creek? Well, actually no. We’re getting lots of wind. With the wind comes drifting snow. The fields are bare but my driveway drifts bad when the wind blows from the North or South. Livin in Manitoba Canada in winter the wind is out of the North most always. Anyway got it all cleared up and am waitin for the next blow.

It is my oldest daughter’s birthday today. Turned 19. So happy birthday
Sodapop (Chelsey). So it is chili and chocolate cake for supper. It is her birthday so she gets to choose. Good choice Sodapop.

Took the wife out for supper last night. Just the two of us. Had a nice time. Long time since we had been out on a date (26 years). Yes a date. There is a little story behind how this came about. Let me tell ya what happened. A couple of Sundays ago our Pastor gets up in front of the church as Pastors do and asks how everyone’s week was. Does anyone have anything they would like to share? He asks this every week and some tell about things that have happened or talk about prayer needs. You know the deal. Well the Pastor goes to telling on how him and his wife went on a date this week. Picture every married women comin to attention and every married man lookin like a deer caught in the headlights. I think there is an unwritten code amongst us married men if ya do something like takin your wife on a date ya kind of keep it to yourself. Don’t talk about it. Certainly don’t bring it up in a room full of married couples. Now I don’t know about every other fellas ride home from church but mine was “We should go on a date.” “How come we never go on a date?” “Isn’t that nice Norm took Gwen on a date.” And ever since then… date, date, date …….. Anyway, I took the wife out last night for supper. We had a nice time and I must admit I really think we should do it more often. At least twice a month or so. I am going to go first Tuesday of the month and she can go last Friday. I think I am pretty safe in mentioning this cause I don’t think anyone actually reads this blog.

I got to tell ya I am sure lookin forward to Spring. More daylight, warmer days. But I got to admit this has been a pretty easy winter so far. I have seen them a lot worse. I am havin a hard time comin up with anything worth written about. We been eatin, sleepin and workin. Next day we do it all again. Not something ya can write about or something someone wants to read about.

I have been listenin to the Plain Talk deals on my lunch hour. I really have been enjoyin them. Now, I don’t know how to link ya up to them but if ya go to the Cumberland Book wed site (do a google search on Cumberland Books) there is a deal on there called Plain Talk. Ya can download them and listen to some good down to earth God fearin people talk on life, values, education, farmin, family and a whole lot more. Give it a listen.

Just heard there is a storm comin at us in the next day or so. that should make life interestin. Need the practice shovelin. Well tell next time, keep your stick on the ice and if she don't find ya handsome she should at least find ya handy.

Goodolboy

Your daughter shares my son Mr. Flatpicker's birthday! He's a few years younger, though. Hope she had a great day. We had lasagna and brownies!

Good for you and Cheryl going out for a date, I wholeheartedly agree that it's a good thing -- and Jim and I need to do it as well!

I think we all froze last night/today, and our car wouldn't even start. Poor thing must be as tired of this cold weather as we are.
